When pain starts getting in the way of training

It may be time to come in if:

  • A nagging injury keeps flaring up when you push your training
  • You’ve lost range of motion in your back, hips, shoulders or knees
  • One side always feels tighter or weaker than the other
  • Pain slows you down on runs, lifts or game day
  • You’re recovering from a sprain, strain or fall
  • Rest and foam rolling only help for a day or two

What causes sports injuries

Most sports pain comes from the same few problems, and they usually build on each other:

  • Joint imbalance: Stiff joints in the spine, hips, knees or feet change how you move and load the rest of your body.
  • Muscle imbalance: When one muscle stops doing its job, the muscle on the other side takes over and gets overworked, like a tug-of-war that one side is losing.
  • Nerve irritation: Irritated nerves can make muscles fire poorly, which feeds the cycle of tightness and pain.
  • Repetitive strain: Thousands of the same motion, like running strides or golf swings, add up over time.
  • Sudden injuries: Falls, collisions and awkward landings strain joints and muscles all at once.

How we get you back in the game

Every plan starts with your exam and only includes what you need:

  • Chiropractic adjustments to restore motion to stiff joints in the spine, hips, knees and feet
  • Therapeutic massage to release tight, overworked muscles and speed recovery
  • Corrective therapy to strengthen weak links and fix the movement patterns behind repeat injuries
  • Non-surgical spinal decompression when a disc in the low back or neck is part of the problem

Hurting mostly in your back? See our back pain treatment page.

Get care right away (go to the ER or urgent care) if you can’t put weight on a limb, a joint looks deformed, or you hit your head and have confusion, vomiting or a worsening headache.

Your first visit

  1. Talk: We listen to how the injury happened, what your training looks like and what you want to get back to.
  2. Exam: We check your joints, muscles, strength, balance and how you move, with X-rays when they’re needed.
  3. Plan: We explain what we found in plain language, what we recommend, how many visits to expect and what it costs.
  4. Start feeling better: When it’s appropriate, most patients receive their first treatment the same day.
