In young children, the tubes that drain fluid from the middle ear are short and nearly flat, so fluid can get trapped after a cold and become infected. That’s why ear infections are so common in babies and toddlers.
The muscles and tissues around those drainage tubes sit right next to the upper neck. When the joints and muscles there are tight, some parents find their child’s ears seem to drain less well.
