What causes neck pain

Your neck balances a 10–12 pound head all day, so small problems add up quickly. The most common causes we see:

Desk and phone posture: Hours looking down at a screen load the neck and upper back, a pattern often called “tech neck.”
Stiff joints: When the small joints between your neck vertebrae stop moving well, the area gets sore and your range of motion shrinks.
Muscle tension and stress: The neck and shoulders are where many people carry stress, and tight muscles there often trigger headaches.
Disc irritation: A bulging or irritated disc can press on a nerve and send pain or tingling down the arm.
Injury: Whiplash from a car accident or a hit in sports can strain the muscles and ligaments that support the neck.

Exam: We check your range of motion, posture, muscles and nerves, with X-rays when they’re needed.
Plan: We explain what we found in plain language, what we recommend, how many visits to expect and what it costs.
Start feeling better: When it’s appropriate, most patients receive their first treatment the same day.

For car accidents, we bill your med-pay coverage and work with attorneys on liens.

Frequently asked questions

Is it safe to have my neck adjusted?

Yes. Neck adjustments are a widely used, well-studied treatment when performed by a licensed chiropractor. Your exam screens for anything that makes an adjustment inappropriate, and if you’d rather not have a manual neck adjustment, we have gentler options.

How many visits will I need?

A recent stiff neck may settle in a few visits. Pain you’ve had for months, or pain that travels into the arm, usually takes longer. You’ll get a specific recommendation after your exam.

Can you help with tension headaches?

Often, yes. Many headaches start with tight muscles and stiff joints in the upper neck. Treating the neck frequently reduces how often they happen.

My hand goes numb. Can you help?

Arm and hand symptoms often come from irritated nerves in the neck. We’ll test for that in your exam and explain what we find. If something needs another provider, we’ll refer you.

Do I need a referral?

No. You can schedule directly with us.
